Family and General Dentistry
We offer all aspects of general dentistry – examinations, gum treatment (“cleanings”) routine white and silver fillings, cosmetic procedures, whitening, root canal treatment, veneers, crowns (“caps”), implants, bridges and dentures to replace missing teeth, minor orthodontics and surgery.
Digital x-rays
We now offer our patients the benefit of digital x-rays, which provide instant images with less radiation, and no toxic developing chemicals to dispose of. We are also able to share these images with specialist offices and insurance companies via email.
Fully Sterilized Equipment
For our patients' safety, we sterilize all our instruments, including handpieces (drills) and use disposable products where sterilization is not possible. We also use a self-contained distilled water system to eliminate any possibility of waterline contamination.
Teeth Whitening
Teeth whitening is a common procedure in the field of cosmetic dentistry. While children's teeth are whiter than their adult teeth, as a person ages the adult teeth often become darker due to changes in the mineral structure of the tooth. Teeth can also become stained by pigments, foods and tobacco. Certain antibiotic medications (like tetracycline) can also lead to teeth stains or a reduction in the brilliance of the enamel.
In our office, home whitening is achieved using a carbamide peroxide gel applied to the teeth using thin custom made trays. This oxidizing agent penetrates the porosities in the rod-like crystal structure of enamel and oxidizes stain deposits. The effects of bleaching vary, depending on factors such as smoking and drinking dark colored liquids like coffee, tea and red wine.
Staining of dentin can discolor the teeth from inside out, but internal bleaching can often remedy this. If heavy staining or tetracycline damage is present on a patient's teeth, and whitening is ineffective, there are other methods of whitening teeth. Porcelain veneers or even bonding (a thin coating of white filling material applied to the front of a person's teeth) can mask the staining.
Porcelain Veneers
Porcelain veneers are used to change the appearance of your natural front teeth in just 2 visits, 1 week apart. The front of the tooth is trimmed slightly, to make space for the veneer, and a temporary veneer is placed for 1 week, while the real one is being made of porcelain at the laboratory. The new veneer will be bonded to your natural tooth at the second appointment. Check out our “Before and After” section to see examples of smiles fashioned in our office.
Smile Makeovers
For many people, their smile isn’t what they’d like it to be, and we’re here for them! From a simple whitening procedure, to a more involved combination of whitening, crowns and veneers, we can design a new smile for you that you’ll be happy to show off. Some samples are shown on our “Before and After” page, and we’re always available to discuss any concerns you may have about your smile.
Emergency Care
From a slip on the ice to biting down on a nutshell, unexpected dental problems can happen to all of us. We are available same day for true dental emergencies, and our hours are listed on our home page.
Implant Dentistry
While we routinely perform treatment such as removable dentures and cemented bridgework to replace missing teeth, we also offer the more current technology of dental implants. Implants are new “roots” made of titanium that are placed in the jawbone (by a specialist) and after they have healed, or integrated we then attach them to crowns, bridges or dentures. We consider implants to be a beneficial treatment option to our patients as they provide a permanent solution for those who do not want to wear anything removable in their mouth, and also eliminates the need to involve any adjoining teeth.
TMJ Therapy
If you have ever experienced difficulty opening or closing, pain or stiffness in your jaw in the morning, or constant unexplained head/neck aches, you may suffer from TMD –temporo mandibular disorder. Things such as grinding or clenching your teeth, misaligned teeth, or even trauma can cause this. Treatments vary, from wearing a guard over your teeth or even certain exercises that often help. We check your TMJ at each check-up, but if something happens in between visits give us a call.
Preventive Care for Teeth and Gums
And you thought it was “just a cleaning”! There are many things we can do to prevent problems from developing in your mouth, such as sealants to prevent decay and techniques to help fight gum disease. When you are seen by our hygienists, they are looking for many signs and symptoms of healthy vs unhealthy gums and teeth. The gums tell us a lot about your oral health, but they can also tell us about your health in general. Things like illness or certain medications can effect your gum and bone health, and may indicate a need to change the treatment you receive here. We also scan your mouth for things like localized infections, swellings, changes in tissues and of course, cancer. |
